National Adoption Month Resources
Our mission at Field Guide for Families is to help raise up the Church as God’s solution to the Vulnerable Child Crisis, which includes the issues of abortion, human trafficking, and the global orphan crisis.
In order to stand in real authority against abortion, we must also stand for one of the main solutions: adoption.
862,320 annual abortions in the U.S. equates to more than one baby aborted per minute. A Culture of Adoption is the solution. The Church is called to stand in the gap by adopting babies and supporting vulnerable mothers who courageously choose to parent.
In order to stand in real authority against human trafficking, we must also stand for one of the main solutions: foster care.
60%- 90% of child sex trafficking victims come from the child welfare system. Foster care is both restorative and preventative in relation to human trafficking.
When we understand our identity as the Church of Jesus Christ, the brokenness of the adoption and foster care systems will not deter us, but will incite us. We are certainly not the savior, but in service to Jesus, we become part of His solution. God calls us to broken people and broken systems. We do not foster or adopt out of pity, but out of identity.
“When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him” - Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)
The Church is the standard God is raising up.
If we are to hate what God hates, we must also love what God loves. Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them.”
“Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.” - Mark 9:36-37 (NLT)
We are commanded in Scripture not just to welcome children, but to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (Proverbs 31:8).
The Spirit of Intimidation has silenced the Church for far too long. We can no longer bow to the bully of fear—fear of loss (“I could never foster; I’d get too attached”), fear of lack of finances (“Adoption costs too much”), or fear of letting go of control (“How will it affect my biological kids?”). Even when our fears are valid, they cannot be allowed to have the final say.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 7 (NKJV).
Fear is the worst decision maker. The reality is: experiencing these thoughts of fear is one of the number one clues God is calling you into foster care or adoption. God predestined us for adoption—both spiritually and literally. The enemy knows this plan and launches strategic darts of fear to keep Christians inactive and ineffective in our callings. Therefore, we must choose to do it afraid.
November is National Adoption Month. What better time for your church to advocate for the care of vulnerable families through foster care and adoption? Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to do so.
Access the exact menu of options for participation in National Adoption Month that we brought to our pastors here.
Access the exact brochures we handed out here. Feel free to use these as a template and add in your own photos and testimony.
Access our graphics teaching positive vs. negative adoption and foster care language here.
Access all our answers to adoption and foster care FAQs here.
We cannot encourage you enough to share these resources with your church! The response from pastors and leaders that we have met with has been overwhelmingly positive. Most churches desire to engage in this space, but they lack a field guide to show them how.
Our prayer is that these resources will help equip you to take a stand and be a field guide for your church.
We would love to connect with your church or event! For speaking inquiries about adoption and foster care, or for more support resources, please email us at fieldguideforfamilies@gmail.com.
